Al Maze's Stories Behind the Stones

Al Maze, our extraordinary tour guide, has started recording some of research on the Trust's website in a new section entitled The Stories Behind the Stones. His first entry is about Dr. and Major General Joseph Warren. Warren is one of Al's personal heroes, because he stood up for the rights of the American colonists in reaction to tyrannical policies of the British government. At that time, the British were perceived as all-powerful rulers of their empire, capable of crushing any resistance. It took a great deal of bravery for individuals to take a stand against the king of England; Warren put property, liberty, and even life itself at risk because of his commitment to justice. Warren's story is a good one to contemplate as we approach the 4th of July, and celebrate our nation's independence and our history of preserving individual rights within a democratic system.
